The Audio CD from Invis Multimedia features an abridged form of the play Kalyanasougandhikam and Melappadam recited by Kalamandalam Haridas and Margi Damu. They are accompanied by percussion: Maddalam by Kalanilayam Babu and Chenda by Kalamandalam Krishnadas.

Kathakalipadams are songs sung in the Sopanam style of music and are part of Kathakali performances, the classical dance form of Kerala. The stories taken up for Kathakali performances are conveyed through Kathakalipadams. The slow rhythmic pace with subtle variations in pitch is a noted feature of Kathakalipadam renditions.

Kalamandalam Haridas

Kalamandalam Haridas, also known as Venmani Haridas had his initial training in music under Mudakkal Sankaran Nair. He joined Kalamandalam in 1960 and learned Kathakali music under Kalamandalam Neelakantan Nambisan, Kalamandalam Sivaraman Nair and Kalamandalam Gangadharan. After his training at Kalamandalam, in 1968 Haridas joined Darpana the dance troupe of Mrinalini Sarabhai as a music teacher. Along with teaching, he  learned Hindustani music and  Rabeendra Sangeetham. He accompanied the troupe for performances all over India and abroad.

In 1978, Haridas joined Margi, Thiruvananthapuram as music teacher. His melodious voice and impressive performance soon caught the attention of his audience. His knowledge in Sanskrit, helped him to deliver songs with good clarity and pronunciation. His familiarity with Hindustani music and  Rabeendra Sangeetham made him comfortable in singing any complicated ragas and innovative variations. In fact his voice had the wide range to adapt to them. He received the Kerala Kalamandalm award in 2003. He has also acted in the Malayalam movies Vanaprastham, Swam and Pathram.

Kalamandalam Haridas passed away on the 17th of September 2005. He was the head of the Music Department of Margi at the time of his demise.
